Abstract
The Dark Side of the Moon
Most of the literature in recent years in dentistry has shown an absence/minimal correlation between occlusion and Temporo-mandibular disorders (TMD). This has led many clinicians to reduce their focus on examining certain aspects of occlusal stability and mandibular movement dynamics that are indisputably non-functional.
It is important to consider the importance of a balanced diagnostic approach which, without ignoring current evidence, consider occlusion as one of the possible contributing factors in dysfunctional pathologies of the temporomandibular joint.
Today more than before new tools and modern dental technologies can be of support for a more accurate assessment of the functional alterations of the stomatognathic system in patients with Temporo-DisordersMondibolari.
This is even more important in patients with algic-dysfunctional symptoms due to Temporo Mandibular Disorders; Learning to recognize intra-oral clinical signs of alterations in masticatory functions must be part of a proper diagnostic protocol by the clinician.
